Core Classes
K-6 Thematic Unit: Eyeing Tornadoes This summer, our language arts, math, and science teachers have all collaborated on a thematic unit plan for our elementary students: Eyeing Tornadoes! Students are going to read and analyze a novel about tornadoes, solve math problems, watch video clips, read informational texts, and build a 3D replica of a tornado shelter. This diverse curriculum combines every area of learning into a fun, creative experience that ends with a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry! |
Core Math – The Core Math Summer Program at iLearn Academy gets students prepared for the upcoming school year. Students who take the Core Math Summer Program have an easier transition into the fall semester. Our Accelerated courses in Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry help students get ahead of their peers over the break. Our curriculum is aligned to the Common Core standards and we utilize the local school curriculum and course materials used in the classroom, however, our program emphasizes authentic learning – students will be solving problems and understanding their answers through demonstration and practice.

Problem Solving / Test Prep – iLearn Academy’s Problem Solving and Test Prep course is the perfect Summer Program for students looking to refresh their memory and move ahead with general math skills. In this comprehensive course, students will alternate between class lectures and workbook practice days, building skills with provided Maths Mate worksheets. Material covered in class prepares students for a variety of standardized math tests, including the TerraNova, MAP, PARCC, and any placement tests for academic subjects. The Problem Solving Summer Program is non-cumulative as well, so students can jump in and out of the curriculum as they need, making this the ideal summer course for students with conflicting schedules.

English – Summer break is the perfect time to catch up and move forward with reading and writing skills. Our English classes challenge students with enhanced reading comprehension practice in which short written responses gauge their ability to reason and draw conclusions based on textual evidence. Students will have the chance to explore storytelling in a fiction writing workshop setting. Grammar skills, vocabulary and standardized test preparation are also covered throughout the curriculum, making iLearn Academy’s Summer English program an invaluable supplement between school semesters.
|
Science – This summer we will be exploring the science of tornadoes! The large forces involved in forming tornadoes , the math behind their movement, and why we've been seeing the largest and most violent tornadoes ever recorded in recent history. This unit will be a thematic through line in many of our summer program classes. Students will have fun using what they learn about the extreme forces of destruction and formation involved with tornadoes in their Creative Writing and Math classes.
